In Memoriam - HE the Chevalier Gerry Maidens GCLJ KCLJ KMLJ

His Excellency Chev. Gerry Maidens GCLJ KCLJ KMLJ

31st July 1935 - 16th June 2025

Jurisdiction Commander 2011- 2015

Keeper of the Castello 2015 - 16th June 2025

In 2015 H.E. Gerry Maidens became Keeper of the Castello and Commander Emeritus, a post he kept until his passing on the 16th June 2025. He was due to officially retire on his 90th birthday on the 31st July 2025. Gerry was one and a half months short of his 90th birthday. He was looking forward to his 'retirement'. However, of late, Gerry's health started to deteriorate and although he was struggling, and there were signs and symptoms of ailing health, he was looking forward to the big day.

On the 17th May 2025, H.E. Gerry Maidens, asked to be allowed to Preside over the Investiture of the Grand Commandery of the Castello for one last time. Chev Alan Miller, as Commander, happily accepted this 'last wish' and the Investiture was held at the Castello grounds. What a great moment this will remain in our Jurisdiction's history.

In 2013, the 40th anniversary of Castello Lanzun, the then Grand Master H.E. Don Carlos Gereda de Borbon, Marquis of Almazan, officiated at a magnificent investiture ceremony held at St. Paul's Anglican Pro Cathedral in Valletta.

In 2018, for his services to the order, Chev Maidens was presented with the Knight Grand Cross by the 50th and current Grandmaster, H.E. Don Francisco de Borbon Graf von Hardenberg during his visit to Malta.

Gerry remained an active member until the very end, attending most functions. He leaves to mourn his loss, Dame Jaqui Maidens, his children and many friends.

May he rest in Peace.
