It is with deep regret that we announce the death of Professor Noel Chapman on September 7, 2025.
Professor Chapman was a long standing and valued member of the Order. He was in the original group of six members who re-formed the Malta Obedience in New Zealand in 1999, serving as Chancellor of the Malta Obedience and then of the united Order until 2017. He was then appointed Assistant Grand Prior. He will be long remembered for the dignity with which he performed the Chancellor's duties at investiture ceremonies and for his efficient governance of the Order. On his retirement as Chancellor, Noel was appointed Deputy Grand Prior and in recent years, with Ann’s assistance, we managed on a couple of occasions to bundle him onto a plane to attend the Biannual investiture service in Christchurch.
His knowledge of the history of the Order, particularly in New Zealand, was legendary and his quiet, yet sage, advice will be missed by us all.
