Australian Capital Territory Commandery

The Australian Capital Territory Commandery has launched an online appeal to its loyal regular supporters for the L'Arche Foundation in lieu of the traditional dinner, which is usually held in late May. All Commandery charitable financial reserves have recently been expended in support of L’Arche. The nature of the lockdown has meant that Members have been incapable of getting out into the community to raise funds in the normal way.

The Grand Prior
As early as March 26th, wishing that our Order would contribute to serving its hospitaller vocation, our Grand Prior addressed all of you to suggest that you respond to the call for blood donation issued by the French Blood Establishment, as donors are becoming rarer in this period of pandemic. This appeal remains relevant.

Charities Association of the Grand Priory of Alsace
The OSLJ's Charities Association of the Grand Priory of Alsace donated 900 litres of hydroalcoholic gel to the Obernai and Sélestat Hospital Group, an operation which was carried out by the Chevalier Dr. Christian Hermsdorff, KLJ, Hospitaller of the Grand Priory of Alsace.

Count Christian d'Andlau-Hombourg, Grand Prior, personally handed over the bottles of gel to the medical team at the hospital in Obernai.

The Grand Bailiff, HE Dominique Doyen, GCLJ, in a long communication addressed to his members on Easter Day and which he transmitted to us, wrote, in a long message summarized here, that on the day of the resurrection of Christ our Saviour, traditionally a day of joy, the world is overwhelmed by a terrible pandemic whose virus is not well known, nor is there a vaccine that could protect the whole world. He recalled that ten years ago, Bill Gates announced such a catastrophe because of a lack of research and preparation.

Many members of the Lieutenancy of Saint Lazarus have participated from the very first days in individual blood donations and are also there to listen to single or sick people who find it difficult to bear the current situation of confinement and to whom they offer help and advice.
