INTERNATIONAL - Commissions of the Order meet during the Pilgrimage in Kevelaer

According the order of the Grand Commander the recently appointed Grand Hospitaller invited all national Hospitallers to attend the annual Hospitaller Meeting during the International Pilgrimage 2012 to Kevelaer.

Over 37 international Heads of Jurisdictions (HoJ) arrive from over 37 Delegates round the world to attend the HOJ-Meeting The leaders of the Order's national jurisdictions meet together with the Grandmaster, the Spiritual Protector and further members of the Grand Magistry for a personal exchange of ideas to discuss the Orders work in the coming months. The International Public Relations Commission meets in Kevelar for its annual working session.

GERMANY - Grandmaster inaugrated in Berlin the new appointed German Baillif

Berlin - On 27.April the Grandmaster inaugurated Chev. Clemens Stroetman as Baillif of the united German Jurisdiction. In January Grandprior of the Grand Priory Germany Prinz Ernst-August zur Lippe and Chev. Clemens Stroetmann signed the unification of the former Grand Priory and the Grand Bailliwick.

The Geman members of the Order assess it very positively as great honour that Grandmaster Don Carlos Gereda de Borbón with regard to his worldwide duties came personally to Berlin to hand out the Grand Magistral appointments.

AUSTRALIA - The Funeral Service for Chevalier Tony Sallmann in Melbourne

On Saturday 7th April, on the Vigil of Easter, Chevalier Tony Sallmann, Past Grand Prior of Australia, and Past President of the Governing Council of the Paris Obedience, went to his eternal reward at his country home on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsular.

Chevalier Tony’s ecumenical funeral service was held at St. Peter’s Church, Eastern Hill, Melbourne on Monday 16th of April and was later that afternoon buried at Flinders on the Mornington Peninsular.

The Funeral Service for Chevalier Anthony (Tony) Sallmann took place at St. Peter’s Church, Eastern Hill, in the City of Melbourne, on Monday16th April 2012. Thirty five members of the Order, wearing their mantels, entered in procession in the Conventual Chapel of Saint Lazarus for the funeral service led by the Australian Grand Prior, The Hon Mr Justice Barry O’Keefe AM KC*HS GCLJ GCMLJ (Ret) and The Chancellor and Australian Grand Prior Designate, Chevalier Dr. Willoughby Bailey AO KCLJ CMLJ.

INTERNATIONAL - The Grandmaster`s Easter Message 2012

Grandmaster Carlos Gereda de Bourbón, Marquis of Almazán published his Easter Message with his best wishes to all members of the Order:

"Once more we have commemorated the Passion and Death of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and I want to remind you that he announced three times he was going to die, specifying the reason for his death, suffering his passion, condemned by the scribes and the priests, by the elders and the princes, and that on the third day he would rise from the dead. His disciples at that time did not understand what he was saying; they only understood when they saw Christ resurrected, when he appeared and explained to them the Holy Scriptures. That is to say: Jesus was always aware of his sacrifice for mankind, to redeem us from sin and show us the way to be righteous.
I wish, after these days of devotion and reflection, that your prayers to the Almighty be addressed to implore his aid for our brothers in Syria who are suffering all sorts of violence. So that the civil war that is devastating that biblical country ceases at once and peace and harmony born from justice may prevail.

In this way we may follow the appeal of our Spiritual Protector, His Beatitude Gregorius III, to provide material help to those in need whether Christians or Muslims, united now by grief and misfortune. The Order of Saint Lazarus knows that the right way, shown by Christ in his Passion and Death, requires sacrifices and resignations. This will be the best way to contribute in remembering He who died for us in the cross and his glorious resurrection."

AUSTRALIA - Vale Chevalier Tony Sallmann AO LVO GCLJ GCMLJ, GCrLJ

The Grand Priory of Australia conveys to all members of the Order that The Chevalier Tony Sallmann, passed to his eternal reward, at his country home on the Victorian Mornington Peninsular on Saturday 7 April 2012.

Throughout his thirty plus years asa member of the Order, Tony has held the positions of Chancellor, Grand Bailiff,Grand Prior and internationally as President of the Governing Council of the Paris Obedience prior to reunification. Throughout his years of membership Tony always had the passionate dream for the reunification of the both Obediences and was instrumental in bringing into effect the initial steps that brought this about.

Chevalier Tony Sallmann will also be remembered as a strong supporter for the establishment of the Public Relations Commission.

In coordination with the Orders Grandcommander Drs, hendriks the Vice-Chancellor for Administration Dame Marny Gilluly circulated now an appeal of our Spiritual Protecor His Beatitude Patriarch Gregory III to all jurisdictions to help people in need.

The Patriarch informed that because of the tragic incidents which have affected Syria during the past year (Marchv. 2011 to March 2012) many people had to leave their towns, villages, houses and family property. The Melkite Church has provided them places of shelter in Damascus, in their monasteries and in other places and urgently needs now to continue the nessecary help.

As first jurisdiction of our Order the Grandbailliwick of Slovakia donated 10.000 Euros to the Patriarchate. The Chief of the Order in Slovakia Chev. Zdenek Tomčík hopes that many members follow the appeal to help in Syria.. With our Patriarch at the top of the humanitatian movement,we can guarantee that all donations reach the needier without any loss.

MADRID - Revised Heraldic Regulations accepted at GMC Meeting

At the March Grand Magistral Council meeting in Madrid, the Grand Officer of Arms, Professor Michael Ross, presented a revision of the Heraldic Regulations of the Order which updates several issues and clarifies a number of areas in the Regulations.

LONDON - Grandmaster installed Earl of Shrewsbury and Waterford as Grand Prior

On Saturday 10th March the Grand Master, H.E. Don Carlos Gereda de Borbon, Marquis of Almazan, was pleased to install the 22nd, The Rt Hon. Charles Chetwynd-Talbot, Premier Earl on the Rolls of the Nobility of England & Ireland, as Grand Prior of the Grand Priory of England & Wales at a Service held in the Guards’ Chapel, Wellington Barracks, Birdcage Walk, London.
Before the service began, the Bailiff paid tribute to the late Lord St John of Fawsley, Grand Bailiff of England & Wales who died on 2nd March 2012. A minute’s silence was observed and he was later remembered by name in the intercessions for the departed. During the ceremony, the Grand Master promoted . . . .

Europe/Berlin - His Beatitude Patriarch Gregorios III. arrived in these days at Berlin for a two-days-visit. He is member of DINO since 2007. He met with the chancelor’s Foreign Affairs and Security Advisor Mr. Christoph Hausgen as well as with the head of the CDU and SPD groups in parliament, Mr. Volker Kauder and Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeiner. Furthermore he informed the members of the Foreign Affairs Council of the German parliament, Mr. Rupprecht Polenz, CDU, and Dr. Rainer Stinner (accompagnied by members of parliament Mrs. Birgit Homburger and Brijan Djir-Saraj, FDP) on his view of the actual situation in Syria.

There were further talks of the patriarch with representatives of the catholic office of the German Bishops-Conference.
In the evening the Patriarch discussed the actual situation in Syria with members of Berlin’s Press Club and met with journalists of Deutsche Welle and Berlin’s daily newspapers.

Madrid - On Saturday, 3 March 2012, Grandmaster Carlos Gereda de Borbón and the Grand Magistral Council received the report of the Grand Executive Committee making recommendations for consideration with regard to appointments to the Grand Magistral Council.

After a full and constructive discussion by the Grand Magistral Council, the following recommendations for appointments to the Grand Magistral Council and Grand Executive Committee were accepted and approved by the Grand Master. . .
