One of the primary social events of the year for the New Orleans’ Roman Catholic Community is the annual gala hosted by the Southern Province of the Dominican Friars (Order of Preachers).  The highlight of the evening is the Dominicans honoring a particularly significant person or group with the St. Martin de Porres Award. This year there were three honorees, our Order of St. Lazarus together with the Orders of Malta and Holy Sepulcher.  This was the first time any order of chivalry had been so recognized by the Southern Dominicans.

We found the invitation from the Order of Preachers especially meaningful as our ecumenical Order shared the dais with two respected, exclusively Catholic, chivalric orders. As one will see below, the Grand Commandery of the South was well represented at the gala, led by our Grand Prior, Ken Moritsugu, who visited New Orleans for just this event.
