The charitable arm of the Grand Priory of America together with the Grand Commandery of the South has partnered with the AMAR Foundation to provide much needed basic supplies to Christian, Muslim and Yazidi refugees at a camp in Iraqi Kurdistan. AMAR is an Anglo-American charitable foundation devoted to providing medical, public health and basic needs to communities under duress. As AMAR has been active in the Middle East since 1991, its expertize and distribution system provided a means for our Order to respond to the refugee crisis.

On March 31st, Maya Begalieva MD, PhD became the latest person to achieve U.S. Citizenship through the Grand Commandery of the South’s Citizenship program. Maya came to the United States from Kirgizstan. She is a professor at Tulane University’s School of Public Health where she focuses on Global Community and Behavioral Sciences.

The St Lazarus Charitable Trust (SLCT) in England & Wales has supported the Edinburgh Medical Missionary Society (EMMS) for a number of years.

As part of the celebrations to mark their 175th Anniversary, EMMS International held a Symposium on ‘The value of the student elective’ on Saturday 23rd January 2016 in Glasgow, which was attended by Chevalier John Reid KLJ and Confrere David Knox OLJ, both Trustees of the SLCT.

On Ash Wednesday, February 10 2016, St Lazarus House, Kosice (Slovakia) was consecrated by the Bishop of Kosice, H.E. Milan Chautur, in the presence of representatives of the Order of St Lazarus, the Maltese Order, members of the clergy, politicians and the local community.
