Dame Ros Newton generously opened her home in January to host a fund-raising coffee morning in aid of arthritis research.

Some 25 Order members and friends gathered in her Marchmont flat to enjoy an array of edible delights, and catch up with friend old and new.   Ros and a minor army of friends prepared for the day by making marmalade, chutney, jam, biscuits and cakes – all for sale as well as books, CDs,  handmade cards and various small gifts.

Our new Grand Baillie, HE Chev Roy Scott, gave a short talk about the Order and its work and thanked Ros for her welcome initiative. This is the third time that she has opened her house for an Order function.

Col Martin Passmore, our Receiver General, took on the role of auctioneer, whipping up enthusiasm for donated items ranging from Welsh whisky and paintings, to port. With the auction boosted by a raffle plus Ros’s direct efforts, some £400 was raised, some of which goes to Ros’s chosen charity Arthritis Research Scotland.

Said Roy Scott: “This event and the considerable money raised represents a great effort by Ros, and the dedicated team she has encouraged around her.”
