Only a few people in Malawi can afford to see a doctor for medical care or treatment, so the work undertaken by the AHU of the Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus, under the direction of Sandor Balogh CLJ, is of vital importance.

The medical mission volunteers, Dr. Edina Palinkas, Dr. Anna Jakkel and the AHU`s coordinator, Dorottya Horvath, are kept busy day and night helping to heal the sick.

Their associates from the Hungarian Trade and Culture Centre in Blanytre provide essential assistance. Due to their local knowledge and many connections, they are able to take the doctors where they are needed the most.

News of the Hungarian doctors has spread rapidly: they examined 150 people in a day. The locals make them feel very welcome, they are very grateful for the free service provided by the AHU.

Children and adults alike saw our doctors. Most of adults suffer from musculo-skeletal disorders, others from malaria or AIDS. There were two people who required to be sent to the hospital.

The next time the members of the mission will go to the surrounding countryside and other towns and villages where the people live under even worse conditions than in Blanytre.
