| Update from Nias - Earth quakes still going on | ||
 As our tsunami aid focus in Sumatra and Nias was centralized on the districts of Sirombu and Mandrehe. Sadly, it was Nias that has suffered the brunt of the latest earthquake. Today, it is even more apparent that our ongoing aid project has the perfect focus: as St. Lazarus rose from the dead, so shall Nias rise from this destruction to once again prosper.Jurisdictions from throughout both Obediences of the Order have come together, providing continued, growing and ongoing financial support for our humanitarian effort |

 January 5th, 2005 Following the Official Appeal of the Grand Masters, H.R.H. the Duke of Seville and H.E. The Duke of Brissac, placed on the Order’s joint website on 31st December 2004, dramatic and positive responses and actions have occurred. This means that the Order is now able to deliver immediately its first positive and practical relief programme. Our help and support is urgently needed for survivors of the terrible earthquake and tidal waves of 26th December 2004 in Aceh in the northern tip of Sumatra, Nias and other islands off the west coast and Pantai Cermin near Medan, Janto, Calang, Meulaboh, Simeuleu, Banda Aceh, Sabang, Sigli, Bireuen, Lhok Seumawe, Langsa, and Nias, to name but a few. Many thousands have died in Indonesia - almost 30,000 (as of 28 Dec 2004) – and the death toll is rising. Even more have been injured, homeless and are in greatest need. Because the Order already has a Delegation in Indonesia, we have the ability to be able to conduct our first practical aid programme in that country. Following detailed discussions between the Commission and the LAZARUS-HILFSWERK (LHW), (with its headquarters in Germany), it has been agreed that the LHW will undertake the technical supervision of the Order’s practical aid operations that will take place now and in the future as part of the Saint Lazarus Asia Disaster Relief Programme established by the Grand Masters. A JOINT MESSAGE FROM THE GRANDMASTER On New Year’s Day it is traditional for greetings and good wishes to be exchanged between us all. Today, however, we join together to call upon all members of The Military and Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus of Jerusalem throughout the world to support our action in establishing, on behalf of the Order, the “Asia Disaster Relief Programme”. version version |
